The Burning of Nottoway Plantation

Built in 1859 by enslaved labor under planter John Hampden Randolph, Nottoway was the
largest antebellum plantation house in the South. This former slaveholding estate burned down
in May 2025 after a fire engulfed its southern wing, destroying the mansion
